.The practice of jumping over obstacles in riding develops horseman’s physical qualities, as well as psychological ones, namely: ability, strenght, resistance, balance, but also trust in one’s own strenghts, spirit of observation, courage.
The jumps over obstacles have to be performed moderately and, above all, the horse will not be required more than it can do.
The beginning horseman needs an obedient horse, a horse that approaches the obstacle calmly and firmly, that does not stop when it comes in front of it.

Every beginning horseman is adviced to avoid the tumbles that may cause the fear of obstacle, as well as hesitations that, without the horseman to realize it, are also trasmintted to the horse.
The position in the saddle and the use of helpers must not disturb the horse, but leave it more freedom in movement.
The jump is in fact a galloping stride with more pronounced reactions, depending on the height and
width obstacle. The jumps over obstacles have three stages: ascending, of flight and descending. During these phases, the horseman must not do forced movements, but to hold his back and pelvis as soft as he can, in order to take the position that is given by the reaction of the jump.
The main way to benefit from results of the performance is the involvement in the training of youth, a complex formation of juniors, depending on potential and not on the horse.
It is a well known fact that the weight of the horseman impedes less the horse when it overlaps on all the phases of the jump on the weight center line of the horse.
If the bending of the body forward is exaggerated, it loses the contact with the saddle and reduces the stability of the horseman.
Regarding the bending of the body forward, it is preferable the 45 degrees one. The swings forward and backward greatly disturb the horse in the mouth and back.
